Vaćani – Grlo 2024
During November 2024, archaeological excavations were conducted at the Vaćani – Grlo site. The site is located 10 kilometers from Skradin in the direction of Bribir and is situated on an elevated position near the modern road. The first, smaller protective excavations, during which four graves were explored, were carried out by the Šibenik City Museum. This year’s excavations covered an area of 76 square meters. Within this area, 18 graves were documented and explored. Based on the size of the graves, prior to the anthropological analysis of skeletal remains, it can be assumed that 13 graves belonged to children and five to adults. All graves feature stone architecture. Finds were discovered in nine graves (G5, G9, G10, G11, G12, G15, G18, G19, and G20). These finds mainly consist of jewelry, specifically small rings. In addition to jewelry, a single knife was also found. The discovered graves can preliminarily be dated to the 10th century.
